🏠 Wellness tourism set to quadruple by 2027

And the latest on the abolition of the FHL tax regime

👋 Welcome to all of the new subscribers who have joined our owner and property manager community. It is great to welcome you here.

Whilst still providing great value, this weeks newsletter is a bit shorter than normal whilst I take a well deserved family holiday 🌄. The newsletter will be back in full force at the start of September.

See you next Saturday at 5pm?

IN THE NEWS

Abolition of FHL Tax Allowances

A team of four from PASC, ASSC and Francis Clark met with Government officials this week. The meeting was described as ‘open and positive’ with the Government being open to additional meetings.

One of the key requests PASC & ASSC have asked of Government is for a pause on implementation to allow owners more time to make any changes in how they manage their taxes.

As a host these are the current recommended actions :

  1. Complete the petition that PASC have recently created - There is also a short deadline on this closing so completing it this weekend is highly encouraged

  2. Participate in the PASC owner impact survey to provide valuable data that will inform their discussions with the government about the anticipated consequences of the proposed changes on owners

  3. Contact you local MP and encourage them to visit you holiday let and to talk through your business and potential impact the changes will have. PASC have created some guidance notes you can download from here

On top of the above we will continue to provide information for you that allows you to keep abreast of the changes and potential impact; enabling you to take any appropriate action in your current tax arrangements.

Other news :

To keep the newsletter shorter but still informative. For this week I have provided links to some industry related headlines that I have found :

  • Vacation rental industry steps up lobbying in the face of stiffer regulation

  • Airbnb ban at Shoreline Crescent in Folkestone axed as homes advertised for £1,050 a night

  • Keeping an eye on Europe’s crackdown on STR properties - Valencia is latest Spanish city to impose strict STR legislation

  • Did you know that VisitEngland has a free asset (photo) library that you can use? I don’t think it’s that extensive but might be worth a look to grab some free photos you can use for your listing or for social media

Promote Wellness Activities To Guests

According to a report by Skift following the release of their “State of Travel’ report, Wellness Tourism is set to quadruple between now and 2027.

The report is US-centric however it is likely that the UK will also see a good increase in travellers searching for wellness based holidays or activities.

According to Skift :

Wellness tourists significantly outspend their non-wellness counterparts, with international wellness tourists spending 41% more and domestic wellness tourists spending 175% more.

Although there will be some proportion of ‘wellness tourists’ that will be seeking a stay at specialist wellness centres or hotels; as a furnished holiday let host there are a number of local activities you could highlight within your digital guide book that can help you attract this growing market and maybe even provide as a upsell as we discussed in last weeks newsletter?

Here are some ideas of popular wellness activities you could add to your welcome guide :

  • Spa retreats: Enjoying massages, facials, and other pampering treatments

  • Yoga and meditation retreats: Learning relaxation techniques and connecting with your inner self

  • Health and fitness retreats: Participating in fitness classes, healthy eating programs, and outdoor activities

  • Nature-based experiences: Hiking, camping, and eco-tourism to connect with nature and reduce stress

  • Cultural immersions: Exploring different cultures and traditions to broaden your perspective and enhance your well-being

Quick action :

Find 5 wellness activities near to your property and add them to your welcome guide.
