IN THE NEWS

In a previous newsletter we highlighted what the main parties manifestos said about FHLs and housing, with the Labour manifesto being quite light on FHL specifics.

The new cabinet has been announced and Lisa Nandy is our new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

In doing a bit a research for you all, one of the first articles that came up was from 2022 where the Labour Party (and specifically Lisa Nandy) announced that they would bring in a licensing scheme for holiday let properties.

We will watch how the new Government policies start to form with interest and provide further updates in the following weeks newsletters.

Hostaway has recently introduced dynamic pricing to its list of features. If you are looking for a Property Management System (PMS) and want to make use of dynamic pricing it might be worth checking out their offering.

Within our resources directory we have created a list of Channel Managers and PMSs.

Lodgify, the PMS and Channel Manager platform has introduced a number of new features including introducing Apple Pay and Google Pay, VRBO message syncing and improved payment management.

As part of Phocuswright Europe that recently took place in Barcelona, leaders from Interhome, Bob W., Awaze, and Guesty discussed the challenges and opportunities facing FHL owners and property managers; especially when compared to traditional hotels.

The broad takeaway was that there are opportunities for hosts, owners and property managers to further improve the service they are providing to guests; retaining the uniqueness of individual properties that FHLs offer, whilst further embracing technology to provide a higher level of service before, during and after a stay.

Mini Adventure Ideas for Guests

Some of you may remember the BMW Mini advertising campaign from 2001 in which they encouraged the adventures you could have with your Mini car.

As guests continue to be price conscious, although you may well already provide suggestions for guests on places to visit, restaurants and attractions to visit within your digital welcome guide, how about providing some low cost mini adventure ideas that guests can gain inspiration from? Providing a list of some imaginative ideas may also help guests see you as a considerate host and support referrals and positive reviews.

To help you provide a list of mini adventures, we have create a list of over 40 ideas for you that you can view.

As an idea, alongside putting some ideas within your welcome guide, you could also create a series of posts on social media.

If youā€™d like a PDF of this list that you can print and include within your welcome guide, just hit reply and let me know?
