IN THE NEWS

PASC, ASAP, STAA, Airbnb and other parties met with The Tourism Minister this week to discuss the proposed short-term let Registration Scheme. The consensus view provided to Government was that registration should be mandatory for all; irrespective of how many nights a property is let out for, rather than having a lower threshold. This approach is also more in line with the original Registration Scheme announcement and would provide a more level playing field, and maybe reduce the registration costs for all. To be continued…

Here’s a couple of other articles highlighting different reactions to the Chancellors proposed abolishment of the FHL allowances.

Tips and strategies to enhance the visibility and attractiveness of your holiday let.

According to a study by Booking dot com, 78% of global travellers intend to stay in a sustainable property at least once in the next 12 months.

The impact of environmental changes is a growing concern for many, but how can hosts provide a more sustainable property and stay for your guests?

Assuming you have an existing property, the key areas where hosts can improve their environmental credentials can be summarised as:

  • Energy use - Investing in energy-efficient appliances, LED lighting or installing solar panels or a ground source heat pump

  • Water conservation - Installing low-flow shower heads and taps, as-well as dual-flush toilets

  • Waste reduction and recycling - Provide clear recycling bins for guests

  • Sustainable products - Choose eco-friendly cleaning products and re-fillable containers for hand-soaps, etc. Source locally produced goods for your welcome pack

  • Guest Awareness - Within your welcome book provide local walks, cycling routes and public transport information

Alongside the above resources we have written an article that explores some of these topics in greater detail.
