IN THE NEWS

Visit Britain complete a monthly survey called the ‘UK Domestic Sentiment Tracker’ to assess the intentions of UK travellers. As the survey is completed each month, it can also provide some insights and trends in travel intentions.

The graphic below highlights some of the key findings from their March 2024 report.

Amongst the survey was a list of the main activities travellers would be most likely to complete. As a host, you could use these as some suggestions for social media marketing or for tweaking your listing to highlight any relevant activities or locations near your property.

Top activities (in order of frequency mentioned) travellers are most likely to do:

  • Trying local food and drink

  • Walking, Hiking or Rambling

  • Visit heritage sites

  • Explore scenic areas by car

  • Nature and wildlife experiences

  • Visit cultural attractions

  • Visit family attractions

  • Learn about local history and culture

  • Visit theme parks

  • Experience the nightlife

  • Speciality shopping

  • Water sports

  • Adventure activities

  • Visit locations featured in TV, film or…

  • Cycling or mountain biking

  • Health or wellbeing experiences

  • Creative or artistic pursuits

  • Conservation or volunteering activities

The key takeaway I took from the survey findings is that there is a general improved air of optimism in the UK however there is increased pressure on UK stays from cheap overseas holidays with better weather, with travellers booking shorter UK stays.
